Porter is launching direct flights from YEG to Puerto Vallarta and Los Cabos this November — on top of the Phoenix and Las Vegas routes it already flies. If you've been connecting through Calgary or Vancouver for a beach getaway, that's about to be optional.
Four direct warm-weather routes out of YEG now. Edmonton is officially done apologizing for winter.
Edmonton has had direct Porter service to Las Vegas and Phoenix for a while — those aren't new. What is new: nonstop flights to Puerto Vallarta (PVR) and Los Cabos (SJD), starting this November. Both are proper beach destinations, not just warm-weather layover cities — this is Porter adding real sun routes to YEG, not just desert ones.
Direct to PVR — Pacific coast, Jalisco. One of Mexico's most established beach destinations, now a nonstop from Edmonton.
Direct to SJD — the tip of the Baja Peninsula. Previously meant connecting through Calgary, Vancouver, or a U.S. hub.
Porter's existing direct route — still running, still worth knowing about if Vegas is more your speed than a beach.
Also already direct. Good option if you want warm and dry rather than warm and humid.
Alberta doesn't usually get first access to new Mexico routes — that's historically been a Calgary and Toronto story. A direct Puerto Vallarta or Los Cabos option out of Edmonton specifically means skipping a connection on what's often already a long travel day, and it opens up winter escape planning that didn't make sense before when the "direct" options were limited to Vegas and Phoenix.
It's also one more sign Edmonton's route map keeps expanding rather than shrinking — worth remembering next time someone tells you YEG is just a connecting airport.
New routes almost always launch with promotional pricing to build demand, and that pricing can move around a lot in the first few weeks. I'll be tracking both PVR and SJD on the Edmonton deals page going forward, so if you're not ready to book today, keep an eye there rather than guessing at when the "real" price settles.
One email a week. Real prices, including whatever Puerto Vallarta and Los Cabos settle at.
